Questions about skilled nursing
Who provides skilled nursing at home?
Registered nurses (RNs) and licensed vocational nurses (LVNs). An RN completes the first visit, builds the plan of care with your physician, and supervises every nurse and aide on the case.
How soon after a hospital discharge can nursing start?
In most cases the first nursing visit happens within 48 hours of the referral, and sooner when the discharge orders call for it. Call us before discharge and we will coordinate the start-of-care visit with the hospital.
Does Medicare cover home nursing?
Yes, when a physician orders it, the care is intermittent (not around-the-clock), and the patient is homebound. Medicare covers eligible home health services in full with no copay. We verify eligibility before the first visit.
Can the nurse manage my parent's medications?
The nurse reviews every medication, sets up a schedule, teaches the patient and family, and reports side effects or gaps to the physician.
